Explore Miami’s Museums

Miami is a city steeped in culture, and residents of Altis at Kendall Square Apartments are surrounded by a number of museums featuring exhibits and activities to suit just about everyone! Come in out of the heat and explore the art and history of beautiful Miami.

Though the doors of Patricia and Philip Frost Museum of Science closed on August 30th, the museum will continue on in the form of pop up exhibits throughout the city. It will relocate to its new permanent home in 2016. Stay tuned for exciting things to come!

The Miami Children’s Museum is fun for adults too! Bring the kids, or some fun-loving adults, to learn about art, culture and community through play and exploration. Enjoy the museum’s hands on exhibits and create something in the process!

Located in North Miami, the Museum of Contemporary Art offers exhibitions of contemporary artists as well as displays of their own collection. Enjoy live music performances while taking in the art. The museum also offers art programs and camps for kids and teens.

The Wolfsonian-FIU is an affiliate of the Smithsonian featuring paintings, furniture and books as well as other artifacts from the Industrial Revolution through World War II. When you are done exploring, relax in the museum’s café. Another bonus: visitors receive free admission every Friday between 6pm and 9pm.

A city is often defined by its culture and Miami is a vibrant city with lots to offer. Please contact us to learn more about our community and exciting city.

Create Reusable Paper Towels for Your Miami Apartment

Living a greener lifestyle is not only good for the environment, it is also great for your wallet. Disposable paper towels are not only wasteful, they are also expensive.

Create your own reusable paper towels that will save you money and reduce the amount of trash you create:

  • First, choose your favorite fabrics. If you already sew, there are bound to be some remnants for you to use. You could also stop by a fabric store, or, better yet, you could go to a thrift store and purchase gently used material.
  • Next you will need to wash, dry, and iron your fabrics.
  • Choose the size you want for your towels and then sew the seams.
  • Iron the seams flat.
  • Apply snaps to hold them together.
  • Create a roll to put your towels around, or reuse one from real paper towels.

Use your own creativity to live a greener lifestyle; it is easy, affordable, and fun.

Our residents love living in our apartments in Miami and you will too. To get more information about living in our community, contact us today at Altis Kendall Square.

Pet Safety Tips to Keep in Mind This Summer in Miami

Few locations can measure up to Miami in the Summertime! There is nothing like it!

But just imagine if you’re hot in Miami’s heat and humidity, how do you think your furry best friend must be feeling wearing a full fur coat 24/7? Keep these smart pet safety tips in mind as the temps continue to rise.

  • Never, ever, leave a dog in a hot car. When you’re running around town, take your dog inside with you while out running errands, or leave him at home in the air conditioning.
  • If you wouldn’t stand or walk on a sidewalk or road with no shoes on, then don’t expect your dog to do the same. While their paws are tougher than the soles of your bare feet, they can easily burn on super hot concrete or asphalt.
  • Make sure your cat always has a way to cool off. Fill their water bowl with ice cubes. Place a small fan on low and leave on the floor so they can stretch out in front of it.
  • Pick up all the throw rugs so your dog and cat can enjoy the nice cool tile or hardwood.
  • Have your dog groomed, and brush a cat frequently, to remove as much excess hair as possible.

Tips to Improve Your Pool Game in Our Community Game Center

Billiards is one of those great games that almost everybody plays from time to time. In fact, you don’t have to even be very good at it to have a wonderful time playing with your friends, family and neighbors in our game room.

However, if you want to get a little better at the game so you can have a new level of enjoyment, there are some tips that can help. Use these billiard tips to boost your performance the next time you chalk up.

  • Don’t hit the ball hard if you don’t have to. Most of the time you barely need to hit the ball hard enough for you to hear it. Putting more force on the ball just increases spin, English and wrist movement when you don’t need it.
  • Try the ghost ball method where you place a ball next to the one you’re trying to shoot during practice. Lining up straight to the ghost ball makes learning angled shots much easier.
  • Keep that chalk handy! It might seem like it’s just for the pros, but chalk is essential.

Great Open Mic Fun in Miami!

Are you a new resident of Miami looking for some night fun? Look no further than the many open mic night events that pepper downtown. Whether you’re a singer, a guitar player, or a comedian, you have many options. The following venues are no more than a 10-15 minute drive from Altis at Kendall Square and are designed to keep you entertained.

The Miami Elks Lodge

While many Elks Lodges won’t welcome outside visitors, Miami’s is more than welcome, especially on Thursday night open mic nights. During this event, beer costs about $2 a glass and features some of the coolest vintage taps available.

Stop in, sign up, bring your guitar and start singing. The regular patrons are friendly, just as long as you’re exciting and talented. So bring your A-Game and have a blast!

Churchill’s Pub

If you’re looking for something to do on a lazy Monday, Churchill’s has you covered. Their Monday night open mic experiences are led by Benjamin Shahoulian, a poet who likes bringing in unique artists, such as the club’s wild Jazz Jam Band.

The experience is always wild at Churchill’s: sometimes, you might see a folk band jamming out traditional ballads. Sometimes a guitar shredder will make the night bleed with speed. Whatever you have to offer, it will fit in with Churchill’s.

If you’re interested in learning more about fun events near you or simply need a cool place to live, contact us today. We’ll help you stay on top of the coolest places to party (and live) in all of Miami.

How to Pick the right Rug for Your Home

When you are in the process of decorating a home, there are many ways you can create a different look throughout your living space. The use of rugs can help make a stunning difference in the look and feel of the rooms you are decorating.

The following apartment decorating tips will give you some ideas to use when decorating with rugs.

The type of rug that you choose will depend upon the items that you already have in your decorating space. For example, if you have a variety of colors and patterns in the room you are decorating, you will want to choose a rug that has a neutral color. It will compliment the items in the room instead of creating a busy or cluttered look.

Rugs also have different textures. The texture of your furniture can be the clue to the texture of rug that you purchase. Furniture with a smooth texture will allow a highly textured rug to stand out in the room. It will become a focal point of your living space. Rug patterns create a difference in your rooms also.

These apartment decorating tips are great to use in our apartment community. Contact us at Altis at Kendall Square to learn more about living near Miami, FL.
